The Budget Director indicated that the General State Budget responds to social needs in order to raise the standard of living of citizens.

Cotuí, Sánchez Ramírez. – José Rijo Presbot, Director General of Budget, held an open discussion to address basic aspects of the General State Budget (PGE) and its social impact on the Technological University of Eastern Cibao (UTECO), within the framework of the institutional initiative Citizen Encounter.

The activity also highlighted the impact of the Budget on the economy, development and standard of living of citizens to improve the basic needs of the population and the development of the territories.Rijo Presbot explica impacto

The welcoming remarks were delivered by the rector of UTECO, engineer Marilyn Díaz Ferreira, who indicated that the initiative seeks to add allies to the institution, contribute to the process of alignment with the regulatory framework of the Dominican state and development of the academic studies.

José Rijo Presbot began his speech by stating that the General Directorate of Budget has as its strategic axes fulfilling the commitment to guarantee an effective, efficient and transparent budget management where social control prevails, and he emphasized the efforts made by the institution he heads to expand the level of information provided to society.

The Budget Director explained the challenge the Government had to face upon taking office due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the war between Russia and Ukraine, and the natural phenomena that impacted the national territory, which forced a modification of the current Budget Law to address the context and respond to social needs.Rijo Presbot explica impacto

The Budget Director stated that, to address the global crisis, the government of President Luis Abinader developed a plan focused on the most urgent needs, understanding that the role of the State is to protect people's lives. “Due to the exported crisis, we increased fuel subsidies and took measures to support vulnerable sectors, thereby avoiding the impact of inflation on their family dynamics.”Rijo Presbot indicated, while recalling that part of this effort allowed citizens to avoid falling below the general poverty line.

In his presentation, José Rijo Presbot highlighted aspects related to the formulation and distribution of the Budget, the Financial Management Information System (SIGEF), the function and structure of the State, economic aspects and the challenges we have as a society.

At the meeting that took place in UTECO Also participating were university deans and vice-deans, public officials, politicians, students, media, civil society organizations, and representatives of neighborhood associations.
