Chile's Council for Transparency learns about progress in Budget management

The Budget Director presented the achievements of the entity he leads and the progress made in the institution's ongoing accountability. The meeting was coordinated by the DIGEIG

A delegation from the Chilean Council for Transparency (CPTC) learned about the progress made by the General Directorate of Budget in transparency, social oversight, and accountability. The delegation was received by the Director General of Budget, José Rijo Presbot, in a meeting coordinated by the Director General of Ethics and Governmental Integrity, Milagros Ortíz Bosch, during an official visit to the Dominican Republic.

Francisco Leturia, president; Bernardo Navarrete, advisor; and Felipe Díaz Wittig, secretary of the Council for Transparency, comprised the mission leading this exchange of experiences between both nations in order to continue raising and improving the levels of transparency and access to information for citizens and achieve a better implementation of General Law No. 200-04 on Free Access to Public Information.

Rijo Presbot stood out among the achievements of the DigepresThe publication every Tuesday of the Budget Execution report, which for the first time in the history of the Budget allows for detailed, disaggregated, and weekly information on public spending throughout the year; in addition, the implementation of transparency and social control as one of the pillars of the Institutional Strategic Plan (PEI); the execution reports published by the institution monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, and annually; the consolidation of the Budget, which provides a general overview of public spending management, not only by the central government; and the Fiscal Policy and its projections, which are submitted with a view to formulating the Budget for the following year, which is reviewed by the Council of Ministers.

In that same vein, the implementation of a more agile, human-centered, educational and didactic approach to Communications management was highlighted, through different audiovisual series shared on the platforms and social networks of the General Directorate of Budget. @DigepresRD.

On the subject, Paola Chaljub Then, head of the Budget Communications Department, outlined the progress made and highlighted the production of the podcast “Let’s Talk About the Budget,” an initiative of the institution to disseminate budget and government content; the launch of an audiovisual production studio; and the publications that are made regularly, both on the Digepres.gob.do portal and on social media, such as Budget Education.

Rijo Presbot recalled that the Budget Department carries out "Citizen Encounter," an initiative that seeks to bring citizens closer to everything related to the General State Budget, in which civil society actors attend a discussion with the Budget Director and the exchange of ideas and social proposals is encouraged.

Delegates from the Chilean Council for Transparency expressed their satisfaction with the progress made in this budget management and the government's achievements in transparency and accountability. This is the first visit in a series of working sessions between the two nations, coordinated through a cooperation agreement with the DIGEIG.
