Budget Office Holds Citizen Meeting with Peasant Organizations

More than 20 people from the agricultural sector expanded their knowledge of the General State Budget in a workshop given by technicians from Digepres and coordinated by CIPROS

The General Directorate of Budget (Digepres) He conducted a training workshop aimed at members of the National Peasant Articulation and the Center for Research and Social Promotion (CYPROS) to publicize important aspects of the General State Budget.

The activity took place within the framework of the Citizen Encounter initiative, with the aim of facilitating the understanding and analysis of the Budget by representatives of rural communities, through the review of substantial aspects of public spending, the budgetary process and its importance.

The activity was led by Guadalupe Valdez, president of the Center for Research and Social Promotion (CYPROS), who in his opening remarks highlighted the importance of the initiative promoted by the institutions involved and the Budget.This joint activity allows people from the agricultural and rural sectors to expand their knowledge of the General State Budget, one of the country's main development instruments.“,” Valdez said.

The workshop was led by Melvin Rodríguez Jiménez, Financial Management and Budget Execution Analyst at Presupuesto, and Sorangel González Díaz, head of the Economic Analysis and Studies Department at Digepres.

In his presentation, Rodríguez stated that the public budget is a plan of action of great importance because it reflects a fundamental part of the State's economic policy.

“The budget is established for a specific period and reflects the government's priorities and objectives through the amounts allocated to its revenues and expenditures. The budget shows how the government distributes resources“Rodríguez stated. He also highlighted in his presentation the schedule of activities aimed at formulating the preliminary draft of the 2024 Budget.”

The activity, in which around 20 people from the rural sector participated, expressed interest in continuing to participate in similar meetings to acquire tools that benefit the rural community in the management of budgetary issues.

It is worth noting that among the achievements of President Luis Abinader's administration, in 2022, funds from the National Budget were allocated to the Agricultural Bank, totaling RD$1,823 million, contributions that represent approximately RD$17,000 million to date, among other actions that benefit this sector.

The activity was carried out in the meeting room of CIPROS, a social institution that works on alternative economic strategies.
