Budget Director highlights the Government's rigorous monitoring of budget execution

Rijo Presbot highlighted the Government's interest in ensuring that implementing units manage public resources efficiently and transparently.

The Director General of the Budget, José Rijo Presbot, pointed out that the government of President Luis Abinader rigorously and continuously monitors compliance with budget execution to ensure that it is effective, efficient, and transparent for the benefit of the people's economic and social development.

During an interview on the program “PolitikalIn a statement broadcast on KQ 94.5 FM, the Budget Director indicated that among the primary budgetary objectives is a commitment to the right to quality public health and education. “There is an ongoing effort by President Luis Abinader’s administration to increase investment in health to guarantee this right,” said Rijo Presbot.

Regarding the education system, he argued that it must be transformed, eliminating the way it is currently developed and implemented. “Education in the Dominican Republic is based on a prison-like model because the students are in classrooms, cells, and are numbered,” the Budget Director stated in his address.

Rijo Presbot explained in general terms the overview and distribution of the General State Budget for the year 2024, which, according to the statements of the Budget Director, 94% is committed to the education sector, debt interest, fuel subsidies, the energy sector, social programs and recapitalization of the Central Bank, among other items.

Rijo Presbot concluded his participation in the program hosted by Angely Moreno, Hansel García, Jorge Feliz Pacheco, Máximo Romero and Eliseo Almanzar with aspects related to macroeconomic assumptions such as GDP growth, inflation, exchange rate, among other variables for next year.
