Digepres presents a new tool to increase transparency in the budget execution of local governments

Digepres presenta nueva herramienta para transparentar ejecución presupuestaria de Gobiernos Locales

The initiative adds to the efforts of Digepres to bring the Budget closer to the citizens and actively participate in building a better municipality

The General Directorate of Budget (Digepres)With the commitment to strengthen transparency, promote accountability and direct communication with citizens, the Budgetary Information Dashboard for Local Governments was presented, a technological platform that allows easy access to updated information on municipal management, promoting better accountability and citizen participation.

The tool is designed to provide key data in a visual and understandable way through graphs, tables, and real-time statistics so that citizens can consult relevant information from the city councils.

The activity was led by José Rijo Presbot, Director General of Budget; Iván Ramírez, Deputy Director General of Budget; and Victor D' Aza, Secretary General of the Dominican Municipal League (LMD)Milagros Ortiz Bosch, Director General of Ethics and Governmental Integrity (DIGEIG)Carolina Mejía, Mayor of the National District; Dio Astacio Pacheco, Mayor of Santo Domingo East; Betty Gerónimo, Mayor of Santo Domingo North; Hadeline Matos, Vice Minister of Territorial Planning of the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development (MEPyD)Felix Santana García, Comptroller General of the Republic; Rómulo Arias Moscat, Director General of Government Accounting (DIGECOG)Dionisio De la Rosa Rodríguez, Mayor of San Cristóbal; Santos Ynilcio Ramírez, Mayor of Baní; Fidel de los Santos, Director of the Municipal District of Pantoja; Máximo Soriano, Director of La Caleta; Reynoso Hichez Tellería, Director of the Municipal District of Hato Viejo; and Norvin Berges, in charge of the Department of Services to Local Governments.

José Rijo Presbot, Budget Director, in his welcoming remarks, stated that the initiative complements the efforts of Digepres for continuing to make processes more transparent, improving transparency and accountability of the public budget to the citizens. “Your presence strengthens us because from the Budget Office we want local governments to operate under the concept of a single government, a motto promoted by President Luis Abinader.”Rijo Presbot said. He added that the initiative seeks to foster a culture of legality and promote ethical values, as well as social and individual commitment.

As part of the activity, Victor D' Aza, president of the LMD, presented the conference “Transparency and Accountability of Municipalities” with the aim of socializing the governance indicators and importance of transparency from the public administration. “From the public administration we must commit to better information, accountability, collaboration and citizen participation,” D'Aza expressed this while discussing the topic. Within the information, the president of the LMD He also highlighted achievements at the municipal level such as training public servants, inter-institutional coordination, and initiatives for a different kind of municipal management.

During the event, Milagros Ortiz Bosch of the DIGEIG He indicated that the great challenge for institutions is to facilitate and make public information accessible in order to achieve a management that is close to the people.

Tool available on the Digepres portal

Norvin Berges, head of the Department of Services to Local Governments, was in charge of presenting the Budget Information Dashboard, a technological tool enabled on the portal of Digepres which monitors, analyzes, and visually displays the budget execution of municipalities. Berges indicated that among the tool's features are the status of the municipalities, their processes, key figures, charts with relevant data, and information filtered by region, province, and municipality.

Berges emphasized that DigepresWith this information tool, it is committed to innovation, transparency, and social participation."We invite you to explore this tool and use it as a means to stay informed and actively participate in building a better municipality," he said. Berges when presenting the tool.

The activity took place in the Juan Bosch Budget Hall.
