Budget joins national campaign to fight gender violence

16 Days of Activism to Raise Awareness Among Employees and Spread the Message Against Violence Against Women. As part of the social commitment assumed by the General Directorate of Budget (DIGEPRES), the national White Ribbon campaign, entitled “16 Days of Activism Against Violence Against Women,” was launched at the institutional level. DIGEPRES's initiative is framed within the compliance with Law No. 46-07, which declares these 16 days of activism from November 25 to December 10 of each year. The institution, together with its employees, seeks to contribute to raising awareness of the urgent need to end violence against women and reaffirm the rights of equality and equity between men and women. The start of the activism campaign coincides with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, commemorated to remember the assassination of the Mirabal sisters—Patria, Minerva, and María Teresa—along with Rufino de la Cruz, by the Trujillo regime in 1960. Similarly, the campaign culminates on International Human Rights Day, which coherently conveys the social message linking the need to guarantee women's rights and end gender-based violence. As part of the agenda marking the beginning of these 16 days of activism against violence against women, DIGEPRES distributed a white ribbon to each of its employees and plans to develop a schedule of activities that includes talks and a communication program, both internally and on social media, aimed at raising awareness in society. DIGEPRES seeks to reaffirm its commitment to society, beyond public policies, which include the formulation of the State Budget, efficient spending management, and transparency, all in accordance with the institution's values. Record amount for the Ministry of Women. Similarly, DIGEPRES, as the governing body of the Budget, is sharing the draft General State Budget Law for 2022 through social media and its institutional website. This document contains public policies aimed at combating gender-based violence and promoting women's rights. Among these initiatives, promoted by the government of President Luis Abinader, it is noteworthy that the draft General State Budget Law allocates 1,206.9 million pesos to the Ministry of Women for 2022. A budget 11% higher than that approved for 2021 and the highest allocation for this ministry since its creation in 2000. DIGEPRES has this information available on its institutional website www.digepres.gob.do and through its social media.
